fontanaarte

Fontana Arte, perpetual motion-inpired lighting.

Founded in 1932 by the architect Gio Ponti, Fontana Arte was only a new division of the Luigi Fontana society, at the time leading the glasswork market. While glass-working, Gio Ponti noticed the huge potential this material could offer in the interior design area. Quickly, he imagined a decorative objects collection which was a great success. Fontana Arte then became known for its glass-based realisations.

Year after years, Fontana Arte had some difficulties, and had to find a new strategy to revive. Fontana Arte had the idea of cooperating with the most famous designers of those days, which enabled the society to develop new inspirations and innovations. Gio Ponti hired the renowned designer  Gae Aulenti as the Artistic Director. She calls on the greatest names like Gregori Sottsass, Renzo Piano, Riva... Some lamps became iconic and can even be admired in the greatest Contemporary Art museums : UovoCarmen , or Flûte.

In 2007, Fontana Arte celebrated 75 years of success, inspiration and innovation. Fontana Arte's lamps aren't just lighting objects, but pieces of art.
